NZ albums of 2014

This also recharted several times on the NZ charts like it did over here in Australia, again it's finally been barred from charting over there due to new rules RIANZ introduced to prevent these albums from forever clogging their charts.

Peak position #1x13

Hit singles

Sing #1
Don't #6
Thinking out loud #1
Make it rain #23
Bloodstream #2
Photograph #8

Adele truly ruled the mainstream this decade with NZ being no exception to this, naturally this album was equally as popular over there as it was throughout the rest of the world.

Peak position #1x38

Hit singles

Rolling in the deep #3
Someone like you #1
Set fire to the rain #8

This took its sweet time in peaking in popularity over there as opposed to here where it was a relatively quick ascend to the top of the charts. I'd say we're going with the initial run of this album except that its overall success was combined into one chart run over there as opposed to it being split up like it was over here.

Peak position #1x2

Hit singles

The a team #3
Lego house #5
Drunk #23
Give me love #12
Small bump #11
Kiss me #29

I guess the kiwis were more on board with Sam Smith than we Aussies were initially given how much more popular their debut album was over there compared to what it was over here. This is especially true for the singles which saw much more success even without factoring in streaming.

Peak position #1x8

Hit singles

Money on the mind #12
Stay with me #1
I'm not the only one #3
Like I can #19
Lay me down #2

Although this album proved to be equally as successful in NZ as it was here in Australia, the singles were at a huge disadvantage over there due to the kiwis fully incorporating streaming data over there and Taylor pulling her catalogue from Spotify and other streaming services.

Peak position #1x6

Hit singles

Shake it off #1
Out of the woods #6
Welcome to new York #6
Blank space #2
Style #11
Bad blood #1
Wildest dreams #8

This proved to be equally as inescapable in NZ as Bruno's previous entry on this list, again this was due to the singles being more popular over there than they were over here for the throwback artist.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Locked out of heaven #4
Young girls #23
When I was your man #4
Treasure #7
Natalie #28

This is one of three entries from the opera trio Sol Mio, I guess the kiwis had enough love for opera music this decade to allow these guys to be a massive success despite the failures of their international contemporaries over there.

Peak position #1x16

Naturally this wasn't going to rank as high on this list as it did on the Australian equivalent, however the singles being more popular over there than they were over here is proof the album was indeed popular with the kiwis, nonetheless.

Peak position #1x6

Hit singles

Blow me #8
Try #7
Just give me a reason #1
True love #14

This is another album you'd think would be much higher on this list given how it came from a local artist in NZ, however it only did slightly better over there thanks to how much more popular its singles were compared to here in Australia.

Peak position #1x8

Hit singles

Royals #1
The love club #17
Tennis court #1
Swinging party #10
Team #3
Ribs #29

I'm guessing this albums popularity in NZ was why Lorde proved to be so lucrative throughout the decade given how it was more popular over there than it was here in Australia for Lana Del Rey upon its initial release. Her second album was also more popular over there than it was over here, further proving how well loved she was over there compared to over here.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Summertime sadness #23

I'm guessing the kiwis weren't as hyped up about Frozen as we Aussies were, however, that's like saying P!nk wasn't as popular over there as she was over here given our love for her and the Disney franchise.

Peak position #1x3

Hit singles

Let it go #31 (film version)
Let it go #13

This will be Katy's final appearance on this list given how Witness was a complete disaster in NZ as opposed to being a mere modest success here in Australia, I still can't believe the second and third singles were denied on ARIA's main chart given how they did chart on both its streaming and digital charts.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Roar #1
Dark horse #2
Walking on air #12
Unconditionally #26
Birthday #17
This is how we do #13

The kiwis really seemed to love George Ezra as not only was this first album of his far more popular over there than it was over here, but also his second album is still to come on this list despite it missing the cut on the Australian equivalent.

Peak position #4

Hit singles

Budapest #1
Blame it on me #8

I honestly would've been shocked if this album was less successful in NZ than it was here in Australia given how much more popular their earlier entry on this list was over there than it was over here.

Peak position #5

Hit singles

It's time #37
Radioactive #4
Demons #12
On top of the world #10

This was originally released in 2000 to deafening silence for the Eagles, I'm guessing because the novelty of the band reforming had worn off six years after they declared hell to have frozen over for that to happen. I'm guessing there was a biopic made by the band that no one saw which resulted in this becoming a hit for them in NZ thirteen years later.

Peak position #2

Even though the singles weren't as big in NZ as they were here in Australia, I guess the hype that went into this debut album from Rudimental proved to be more exhilarating for the kiwis than it was for us Aussies given how much bigger the payoff to its success was over there.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Feel the love #4
Not giving in #11
Waiting all night #9
Free #5

I guess the kiwis were also intrigued by what this album from the Arctic monkeys had to offer as it too was a massive success over there for reasons I can't seem to fathom.

Peak position #1x1

Unlike here in Australia where Michael Bublé's popularity was largely confided to the 00's, it appears his popularity peaked in the 2010's given how this was equally as popular over there as it was over here.

Peak position #1x5

While there were plenty of metal albums released throughout the decade, this was by far the most popular of them in the southern hemisphere given how successful it was for the NZ band Devilskin in their homeland upon its initial release.

Peak position #1x3

Hit singles

Start a revolution #28

This was also less successful in NZ than it was here in Australia for Eminem, not by much mind you as the singles did quite well over there like they did over here, but noticeably less so regardless.

Peak position #1x2

Hit singles

Berzerk #12
Rap god #4
Survival #13
The monster #1
Beautiful pain #15

This was the debut album for the NZ indie duo the Broods, I'm guessing it became a massive success in their homeland following the success of Lorde internationally which would also explain how they attracted so much international buzz with both of their entries on this list.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Bridges #8
Never gonna change #40
Mother and father #12
Four walls #18

This E.P proved to be equally as successful as their debut album from earlier on this list in their homeland, mainly because it rebounded on the charts once that album was released which led to them sparking interest amongst us Aussies with how inescapable they were.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Bridges #8
Never gonna change #40

I guess the kiwis weren't as big of fans of the Guardians of the galaxy mixtapes as we Aussies were given how much less popular they were over there compared to what they achieved over here.

Peak position #7

It looks like the kiwis had more love for the Foo Fighters than we Aussies did this decade, not only was this more popular over there than it was over here, but so too is their third album they released this decade.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Something from nothing #32

This was equally as popular in NZ as it was here in Australia for Coldplay, although that's mainly for the album itself as the singles proved to be far less successful over there as they were over here.

Peak position #1x3

Hit singles

Magic #10
A sky full of stars #2
Midnight #11

This was equally as successful for Barbra Streisand in NZ as it was here in Australia, I'm guessing due to the cultural significance it achieved when it made history by helping her have a chart-topping album in every decade since the 60's on Billboard.

Peak position #2

It's a bit odd that this would be roughly as successful as Beyonce's earlier entry on this list in NZ, I guess this was due to the album spawning a few minor hits over there as opposed to Lemonade failing to spawn a charting single for her.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

XO #10
Drunk in love #7

This wasn't as popular in NZ as it was here in Australia for Avicii, mainly because EDM was never among the more popular genres over there like it was over here but also likely due to this reminding them of Rednex in a negative way upon its release.

Peak position #5

Hit singles

Wake me up #1
You make me #32
Hey brother #4
Addicted to you #6

Much like their previous album from twenty years prior, this proved to be more of a success in NZ than it was here in Australia for Pink Floyd proving how much more loved they are over there compared to over here.

Peak position #1x1

I'm a bit surprised this didn't do as well in NZ as it did here in Australia given how Pharrell was behind some of the biggest hits of the 00's over there, I'm guessing the kiwis felt this was more of a gimmick than we Aussies did due to the lead single being from Illumination's Despicable me franchise.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Happy #1
Come get it bae #30

This was equally as successful in NZ as it was here in Australia for 1D, in a way, the title does foreshadow what's to come of the group's final album even if it's named after its placement in their discography.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Steal my girl #9
Ready to change #29
Night changes #11

Even with the confusing album cycle this third album from 1D managed to have, it still proved to be equally as successful in NZ as it was here in Australia due to their strong fanbase at the time.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

Best song ever #3
Story of my life #1
Diana #2
Strong #1
Midnight memories #3
You and I #22

I guess the kiwis weren't as impressed with the INXS miniseries biopic from 2014 as we Aussies were given how much less successful this greatest hits package was over there during the series run on TV.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Never tear us apart (reissue) #27

You better believe this album comes back every year in NZ like it does everywhere else in the world, again we're going with its original run which suggests that it was far less popular initially over there than it was over here.

Peak position #1x4 (original run)

(will forever continue to rechart during each Christmas season)

Jackie Thomas may have won the first season of X Factor NZ in 2013, however it was Whenua Patuwai who was the fan favourite as evidence by his album being more successful over there than Jackie's was (which is still to come on this list.)

Peak position #4

This was so much more popular in NZ than it was here in Australia or Bruce Springsteen, that said, it still remains his only 2010's album to appear on this site of mine.

Peak position #1x2

This barely missed the cut in appearing on the Australian side of my site as this album was released to exclusively in the southern hemisphere due to the popularity of the Madden Brothers on the Voice Australia, for some reason, it was much more of a success in NZ.

Peak position #2

Hit singles

We are done #1

While this wasn't as big a success for 5SOS in NZ as it was here in Australia, at least it made up for that by having the singles in general being more popular over there than they were over here likely through the strength of streaming.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

She looks so perfect #1
Don't stop #1
Good girls #15
Kiss me kiss me #10
Everything I didn't say #8
Amnesia #5

Here's the expansion pack from Ellie Goulding's album from earlier on this list, it lasted much longer on the RIANZ charts even though it didn't last as long on the upper echelons of their charts. I get the feeling her nonfans consider this her true second album as this is where she scored her biggest international hit singles.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Burn #7
How long will I love you #6

We have another greatest hits album from the Seekers to make it big in NZ, in fact I'm surprised one of these albums didn't dominate the album charts when Judith Durham recently passed away.

Peak position #2

I told you this was more of a success for Lana Del Rey in NZ than it was here in Australia, I guess the kiwis wanted to further reward the person who inspired Lorde given how the younger NZ star had taken the world by storm by the time this was released.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

West coast #31
Brooklyn baby #19

I guess Shihad was still a thing this decade as not only did they score an appearance with this 2014 effort, but their 2010 effort only barely missed the cut from appearing on this list.

Peak position #1x1

Hit singles

Think you're so fine #40

Well at least this was more of a mainstream success over in NZ than it was here in Australia, even so, it had a similar chart trajectory over there as it did here as it rebounded on their charts whenever one of the singles was released as such.

Peak position #3

Hit singles

Problem #1
Break free #5
Bang bang #4
Best mistake #29
Love me harder #28
One last time #22

It appears the kiwis had some love for AC/DC this decade as well as this managed to be equally as popular over there upon its initial release as it was over here for the legendary band.

Peak position #2

It looks like the Black keys were able to find success with the follow up to their earlier entry on this list in NZ, this was a bit of a minor hit here in Australia, hence why it failed to appear on that side of my site.

Peak position #2

This was indeed a good decade for Leonard Cohen in NZ, or at least it would've been if he hadn't had passed away in 2016 as he manages to score three entries on this list with his later catalogue.

Peak position #1x1
